Bubble
This weekend, I watched the Netflix anime movie Bubble. I really enjoyed the dystopian setting, colorful aesthetic, and incredible soundtrack. The movie takes place in a futuristic, abandoned Tokyo that is inside a "bubble" and contains bubbles that defy gravity. There, young boys participate in intense parkour games. The main character falls into the ocean and almost drowns, but is saved by a mermaid. They then fall in love, but it has a bittersweet ending. Overall, I think the film was a little confusing because it doesn't explain many of the fantasy elements, but it was heartwarming either way.
As an outcome of my recent Japanese study, I recognized many counters used in this movie, including counters for people. I also recognized the -te form when characters told each other to "stop" or "go," etc. I could understand question words and vocab we've covered in class. One of the character's names made sense to me because I understood its meanings - they named the mermaid character "Uta" because she didn't speak but sang instead, and I knew that "uta" meant song. It felt satisfying to be able to make this connection on my own.
Oh! I've heard about this show! The animation looks seriously good, although I did hear that the story was not the best from a lot of people LOLOL Overall it looks like a fun time!
