The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague

    This week, I watched a romance/slice-of-life anime called "The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague." It is about a man who, because he's a descendent of a snow spirit, can produce snow when he feels strong emotions. He meets a woman at his workplace who he quickly develops a crush on, leading to a comedic office-romance. There are numerous side characters as well such as a descendant of a phoenix and a descendant of a fox. It it interesting that the show combines fantasy with a very mundane office setting. The show is slow-paced but has many cute, subtly romantic moments. Starting from Episode 5, a side romance of other characters developed as well.

    These episodes were interesting because they taught me about the workplace culture in Japan seeing as the show is set in an office - I got to learn about office hierarchies, lunch breaks, deadlines, working overnight, and more. As an outcome of my Japanese study, I could definitely recognize more words, including the newer structure of wanting something or wanting to do something. I could also recognize some uses of the negative plain form and ways to say "because."  I observed many expressions for politeness or manners such as good morning, good afternoon, etc.
