Tomo-Chan is a Girl!
Episodes 1-4
This weekend, I watched episodes 1-4 of Tomo-Chan is a Girl! Tomo-Chan is a Girl! is a slice of life romcom anime about a tomboy who has a crush on her childhood friend. He doesn't see her as a girl, instead treating her like a guy friend. The anime is very funny, especially its charming side characters Misuzu and Carol. I enjoy the small moments of romantic development as well as the themes of friendship and empowerment.
I was able to recognize some uses of the -te form, as well as the use of "ne" to seek agreement at the end of sentences. I recognized some casual speech/dictionary form, and noticed words like school, class, cute, friend, like, etc. I also learned some new words such as the terms for girl, strong, and cool/handsome. I was able to predict some plot points due to experience watching romance and comedy anime. Culturally, I also noted that gender roles in Japan seem more strict than in America.
